Stoke Newington Farmers Market, London

We heard many good things about the delicious farmer’s market in Stoke Newington (London), so we jumped on our bikes and off we were to discover that corner of the city. It was a chill winter day, but the omnipresent sun more than made it up for the cold. Although it’s quite small (think around 20-25 stalls), there’s such a strong local community vibe and a family-friendly atmosphere to it, that our trip there was absolutely worth it. The choice was large and the quality of the goods impressive. So much that we came back home with a full backpack. And an even fuller belly…

We enjoyed a deeply mycologic conversation with the Mushroom man (Mr. Rooney) followed by his incredible simple and delicious “shroom on toast”. We gawked at the impressive skills of the lady making fresh Gözleme from scratch (a delicious Turkish “crêpe” filled with spinach, lamb, or many other goodies). We sampled a *seriously* amazing array of some local buffalo cheese from Alham Wood Organics that brought us right back to our native Romania (and the explanation for this flashback was – as we found out later – that their buffaloes were actually “imported” from Romania). Seriously – you won’t know how sublime fresh cheese can get until you try these!

And the best part? All traders and products there are exclusively organic, and it’s been one of the first (if not THE first) organic market in London!! So, don’t feel guilty indulging in all these goodies. Well… unless you overdo it like we did, of course…

Every Saturday, 10am to 2.30pm – St Paul’s Church, Stoke Newington High Street, N16 7UY (Twitter).
