A few months back we found Marou in a cute coffee shop we love in London, and being the reasonable foodies we are, we had to give it a try. Marou is a bean-to-bar chocolatier based in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City, which was founded by Samuel Maruta and Vincent Mourou back in 2011, after meeting in Vietnam a few months earlier and discovering their common passion for chocolate. Being one of the very few chocolate makers working directly in the country where their cacao beans are grown allows them to collaborate with farmers, effectively cutting the middlemen and supporting the local community of crafters in the process.
We heard about them a while back and fell in love on the spot with their gorgeous branding and philosophy. But that was before we tried these bars! Their story is fascinating, and so are their products. From each bar emanates an incredible feeling of quality and all the craftsmanship that went into it. The ones we tried (Dong Nai 72% and Treasure Island 75%) were both absolutely divine! To learn more about their approach, check out this neat interview with them.
Find Marou Chocolate through our Amazon store (UK).
You can also have a look at their lifestyle in this short and sweet video:
Also, make sure you check out all the work that goes into their products. If you’re anywhere near the design/packaging/craft freak as we are, you’ll be stunned by the crazy process to manufacture their packaging. This is nothing less than design porn:
The following photos were supplied to us by Marou (used with permission) so you can see their whole range. Thanks folks for doing what you do, we love it!!!
