Quick – a drink! Walking around the hilly Lausanne, from Ouchy to the cathedral can be quite an exhausting activity that deserves a serious reward! And nothing beats a serious cocktail done by mixology nerds full of talent and passion, which is quite hard to find in our tiny Switzerland. Don’t despair – we found where!
Le Comptoir, a lovely, vintage-styled cosy bar is waiting a few minutes walk away from Lausanne’s cathedral is there to help you relax in style for your after walks (or after works). Friendly and knowledgeable staff will help you navigate the complex drinks menu, selection of drinks behind the counter, and will deliver exceptionally crafted drinks made with a respectable collection of spirits and bitters (yes, bitters! and lots of ’em)!
Great atmosphere and definitely the best place I’ve seen in Lausanne recently, they’ll prepare any drink you fancy, and keep your creation within reason. Crafted cocktails are between 16-20 CHF, which is absolutely worth it considering they don’t work with lab equipment and eyedroppers (make sure you don’t overdo it, as you’re on your way to get a serious bang for your buck).
Le Comptoir. Rue de la Barre 1, Lausanne, CH. Phone: 021 311 68 40. They’re also likeable on facebook.
Read on for some shots of the place and find an not-on-the-menu house variation of the classic Negroni below.
- 40ml Mezcal
- 20ml Carpano Antica
- 20ml Aperol
- 3 splashes Angostura + Peychaud bitters
- 1 splash Absinth
- 1 Zest Orange
Stir the Mezcal, Antica, and Aperol in a glass with lots of ice.
Add some dashes of Angostura & Peychaud's bitters.
Add a few drops of absinth (don't overdo it!)
(optional) A few drops of green chartreuse. In fact you're supposed to put the chartreuse in an atomiser and light it over the drink, but we'll assume you're a normal citizen and don't have that kind of equipment at home.
Squeeze an orange peel to get the juices on the drink and garnish with a maraschino cherry.
